Call it a craze for government jobs or joblessness, over 50 lakh youth have applied for recruitment to 60,244 posts of constable in UP Police, marking the highest number of online registrations received by the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board (UPPRPB) since its formation in 2009.

The registration process began on December 27, 2023, and has seen an overwhelming response, reflecting the strong interest of the youth in joining the police force. Out of the total applicants, 15 lakh are women who have applied for the 12,000 reserved seats. This surge in female applicants is a positive development as it will contribute to the increased representation of women in the UP Police. The online registration window closed at 12 midnight on Tuesday, and candidates can now make fee adjustments and amendments in their applications until January 20.

With such a large number of applications, the examination will be conducted in two or three shifts to accommodate all the candidates. The board had initially expected around 32 lakh applications and had set up over 6,500 examination centers, but the final number of applicants far exceeded the expectations. This poses a significant challenge for the administration in organizing the exams on such a large scale.

To ensure a fair and secure examination, the board will utilize artificial intelligence to identify suspects and prevent any instances of cheating using electronic devices. Additionally, meetings will be held with railways and roadways officials to make additional arrangements, and the STF and district police have been instructed to remain vigilant against solver gangs. The successful completion of this recruitment process will not only strengthen the state’s police apparatus but also provide promising career opportunities for the youth of Uttar Pradesh.
