Delta B737-800 Diverts to Belize After Engine Failure

A Delta Air Lines flight en route to San Pedro Sula, Honduras from Atlanta diverted to Belize after experiencing an engine failure on 10 September 2025.

Delta Air Lines flight DL1782, operated by a Boeing 737-800, had departed from Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson International Airport (ATL).

The aircraft was performing a regular scheduled service bound for San Pedro Sula Airport (SAP), Honduras.

While in cruising flight to the north of Belize on flight plan track, flight crew reported a failure of the aircraft right-hand engine.

As a result, a drift down procedure was initiated. Flight crew then elected to make a precautionary diversion to nearby Belize City.

The flight subsequently landed without further incident on runway 07 Belize Philip S. W. Goldson International Airport (BZE).

The landing was made approximately 30 minutes after the right-hand engine failure was reported.

The airline mustered a replacement aircraft to service the onwards scheduled flight to San Pedro Sula.

Flight data shows that flight DL1782 had made an on-time departure out of Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson International Airport. Actual time of departure was logged as 10:14 AM local time on 10 September.

Following departure, the flight had proceeded normally, climbing to flight level FL340. The drift down procedure was then followed during the subsequent diversion to nearby Belize Philip S. W. Goldson International Airport.

The aircraft conducting the DL1782 service from Atlanta was a Boeing 737-800, registered N386DA. This is a 25.8 year old narrow body aircraft belonging to the carrier Delta Air Lines.

It has been in operational service with the carrier since its initial delivery from the factory in December 1999.

Following the incident, the aircraft was returned to service on 14 September 2025.
