An unruly passenger is facing charges and possible placement on a no-fly list after assaulting an IndiGo pilot on a Goa bound flight from Delhi.

The incident, which was captured by a passenger on board a Goa-bound IndiGo flight, occurred when the first officer entered the passenger cabin to announce a delay which resulted from thick fog at Delhi Airport.

Video footage taken from the passenger cabin of the aircraft shows the moment that the male passenger walked to the head of the aisle before assaulting the flight crew member as he began to explain the delay to seated passengers.

A further video shows the passenger subsequently being escorted off the flight.

The scheduled Delhi to Goa flight, designated 6E2175, had been delayed for several hours due to conditions of thick fog which had lingered over northern India for several days. Clearly the delay was outside of the control of the airline, however frustrations overflowed following the lengthy delay.

It is unclear what prior warning or advice the airline had given with respect to the delay, however it is understood that the carrier has faced a raft of online complaints.

According to local news source One India, the Indian airline issued a statement following the incident saying: “On January 14, 2024, during the announcement of a flight delay by the first officer of flight 6E2175, a passenger assaulted the first officer.”

Charges & Flight Restrictions

The airline’s statement goes on to confirm that the passenger concerned was then handed over to local authorities for further action. It is understood that IndiGo has filed a formal complaint against the passenger.

As a consequence of the assault, the passenger also faces the prospect of being subject to commercial flight restrictions, with the airline stating:

“The incident is being referred to the independent internal committee for appropriate action and inclusion of the passenger on the ‘no-fly list’ as laid down in regulatory guidelines.”
