EVA Air has unveiled its fourth-generation Premium Economy Class seats, setting a new industry standard with a generous 42-inch seat pitch.
The unveiling took place at the “Focus on Evolution: Taking Off with Heart” event held at Evergreen Aviation Technologies Corporation’s No. 4 Hangar.
EVA Air President Clay Sun presided over the event, showcasing the airline’s latest innovation in passenger comfort.
Debut of Fourth-Gen Seating Product
This marks the debut of the new Premium Economy Class on the Boeing 787-9, transforming the concept from an “upgraded economy” experience to one that rivals business class. The airline aims to provide a truly refined and comfortable journey, strengthening its comprehensive three-class service.
“As the world’s first airline to introduce Premium Economy Class, EVA Air has consistently prioritized innovation driven by passenger needs, setting industry trends,” said EVA Air President Clay Sun.
“These fourth-generation seats build upon the core philosophy of previous generations while significantly enhancing comfort, style, and functionality. They demonstrate our unwavering commitment to service innovation and attention to detail.”
Boeing 787-9 Operations
The Boeing 787-9 equipped with the new Premium Economy Class will initially serve the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) to Jakarta (CGK) route. Future deployment will include flights from TPE to Munich (MUC), Milan (MXP), direct flights to Vienna (VIE), and the day flight to San Francisco (SFO).
Cabin Configuration
The new Premium Economy cabin features 28 seats in a 2-3-2 configuration. A key feature is the cradle motion recline mechanism, which allows the seat cushion to slide forward and upward simultaneously.
This creates a comfortable 8-inch recline while maximizing space for the passenger behind. Each seat boasts an industry-leading 15.6-inch high-resolution widescreen monitor and a multi-function entertainment system controller.
A personal device holder is integrated into the tray table, and 110V AC and USB combo power outlets cater to the needs of today’s connected travelers.
Privacy is paramount in the new design. Side privacy panels on the headrests and integrated reading lights create a more personal space. Premium leather upholstery adorns the headrests, armrests, and footrests, adding a touch of luxury.
Ample storage is available in the armrests, seatback compartments, and dedicated bottle holders. A wheelchair-accessible armrest on aisle seats ensures accessibility for passengers with special needs.

Pioneering Premium Economy
EVA Air pioneered the Premium Economy Class, originally known as Evergreen Deluxe Class, in 1992. This groundbreaking introduction created a new class of service between Economy and Business, reshaping the industry.
With a 38-inch seat pitch, significantly larger than standard Economy, and the introduction of personal TV systems, EVA Air set a new standard for passenger comfort. T
he airline’s continuous improvements to Premium Economy have earned numerous accolades from Skytrax, including awards for “World’s Best Premium Economy Class Airlines,” “World’s Best Premium Economy Class Airline Catering,” and “Best Premium Economy Class Airline Seats.”

Partnership with HUNTER
To further enhance the passenger experience, EVA Air has partnered with renowned British brand HUNTER. Premium Economy passengers on long-haul flights to the U.S., Canada, and Europe departing from Taipei will receive an olive-green amenity kit.
An oatmeal brown version os offered on return flights. The stylish and functional design features a detachable strap and includes HUNTER-branded lotion and lip balm.
EVA Air remains committed to high quality and eco-conscious service items. Passengers can enjoy enhanced comfort with new pillows and double-sided blankets, exclusive high quality headphones. Custom tableware was created in collaboration with Italy’s century-old brand, Guzzini.
Bamboo fiber eco-friendly napkins underscore EVA Air’s commitment to sustainability. Royal Laurel Class toiletries, deep gray velvet slippers, and gourmet mixed nuts and dried fruits complete the premium experience.

Conclusion
